In our today’s blog, I will rank the top 10 hardest Mariah Carey song to sing. I will remind you, it’s not all about the high notes. I will not tell you that this is the hardest because it has the highest note in all of her songs. I will not tell you this is the hardest song because it has complex whistle in it.
They say that Mariah Carey is the best vocalist that has ever lived. I agree. From 1990-1996, she has the most untouchable voice in the world. However, In 1997 and beyond, her voice started to get more fragile because of her nodules. Yes, she has vocal nodules. Imagine how she will slay the b*tches of 2000’s if she isn’t experiencing that case as of today. It makes her voice really complex that she needs proper sleep, avoid alcohol (which she always drink), and to be more hands on to her voice.
I remind you, her voice never left. The only thing that left is her ease in reaching those higher than the heaven notes. Now, let’s start the countdown.
10. We Belong Together (Click to Listen)
The Song of the Decade is here. This is probably the most deceiving song of Mariah, wherein you thought that this song is more like talking in chest voice instead of singing. This song is not easy, it needs proper breath control because of the fast delivery of lyrics. Then finally, in the bridge, this song blast the fast ‘talking’ in high note for about 30 seconds. This is Mariah’s defining song after transforming as ‘Mimi’, a song from The Emancipation of Mimi.
9. My All (Click to Listen)
8. Mine Again (Click to Listen)
This song from “The Emancipation of Mimi” isn’t just a song that full of C5’s. It is a song with full of c5’s sustained belts that needs to be sung every 5 seconds.
7. All in Your Mind (Click to Listen)
6. Through The Rain (Click to Listen)
5. One Sweet Day (Click to Listen)
First off, I want to give Mariah the credit for dedicating this song to Prince in her ‘Sweet Sweet Fantasy Tour 2016’. Anyway, this song is one of her hardest songs, it is a song that you can find Eb5’s everywhere. Imagine that one of the highest note from the 5th octave is being deliver with beautiful runs.
4. Forever (Click to Listen)
This song is literally a belt song. This song is a whole belt where in she is just releasing C5’s and D5’s for 4 minutes. This song might not be famous and might not have whistle, but this song is the real vocal suicide. It will test your agility, belting ability and breathing strategy. Adding the f5’s at the bridge of the song, it made the song harder.
3. If It’s Over (Click to Listen)
Many says it deserves to be named as the toughest song of Mariah, yes it can be. But, I say that it should be on the number four because it delivers a voice with proper mixing, sudden change of notes from the 2nd octave to the 5th in miliseconds. The first part of the song has airy delivery of chest voice adding a really visible vibrato.
2. Emotions (Click to Listen)
A song that features her full 5 octave voice. This song probably will be considered as her most famous classic together with Hero & My All. The complex whistles that can take higher than the heaven above that will eventually make you feel good, feel right and so satisfied. The showcase of her D5’s and Eb5’s is really remarkable. Adding the complex whistles in the whistle register octave. She once sung this song live wherein she reached her highest note at G7. Yes, it should be on top if Mimi didn’t release……
- Fly Like A Bird (Click to Listen)
This gospel song is my favorite Mariah Carey song of all time. Let’s set my favoritism aside. This song features her falsetto, upper belts, head voice (which she rarely showcase), whistle register. You know what’s harder than whistle? It’s talking while you deliver the whistle register and she did it with the word “Jesus” at the last part of the song. This song is more like an elevator song that ups and downs every one second.
